Cuidad de Mexico

A continuation of the project DUNUSA: Life of a Garment. A cropped poncho and a three-tiered skirt—crafted from upcycled second-hand clothing sourced from Johannesburg's Dunusa market. Initiated in South Africa, the project aimed to collaborate with local artisans in Mexico City, utilizing their fabrications to complete the look.

The experimental two-piece aimed to share a spirit of creative exchange between my personal design approach and the local artisans in Mexico City. There were many parallels I saw between Johannesburg and Mexico City through the artisans and their attention to craft. This was important to translate into a look that blends cultures oceans apart.

The look was exhibited in Mexico City through a work-stay program with Forecast and SOMA, showcasing a fusion of sustainable fashion and cross-cultural collaboration.
