The Spring/Summer 2027 collection exists as the introduction to the colourful, abstract world of klein MUIS and the references that make up the designer's frame of understanding, drawn from both his cultural background and his points of interest. Within it lives a history and reflection on being a first generation born-free Coloured South African: reinvention, cultural signifiers and football identity, woven together as personal language.
“The collection holds a layered identity. In its purest form it is a piecing together; an understanding of all the parts that make klein MUIS what it is.” says klein MUIS, founder and creative director at klein MUIS. The world it operates in is free, fluid, draped and colourful. The woman is meant to feel raw, honest and reflective in how they wear and what they wear from this collection.
From the iconic Jabulani football which serves as the pattern for a wrap around dress, to the commemorative draped dress that was reworked from an ANC Nelson Mandela campaign flag. “Each reference carries its own weight, but together they form a single, layered identity. One that does not ask to be resolved into a clean narrative,” says Muis. klein MUIS holds contradiction as a starting point rather than a problem to be solved, trusting the wearer to move through it the same way the designer has: piece by piece, memory by memory, toward something that feels lived-in.
